Naxalite held for attack on police station
HYDERABAD: The Nalgonda district police on Sunday held a CPI (Maoist) naxalite, Mohd Abbas alias Ramesh, in connection with the attack on Atmakur (M) police station.
According to additional superintendent of police (operations) A Venkateshwara Rao, Abbas had a hand in the attack on August 18, 2006 along with other district members. Three police personnel including sub-inspector Chand Pasha of the police station were killed in the attack.
Mohd Abbas, a native of Velvarthi, reportedly joined the CPI (Maoist) party Krishnapatti dalam under the influence of one Rapolu Nagabhushanam alias Ganesh of the same village and went underground.
Two underground naxalites — Cherukuri Rathnaiah alias Murali and Veeraswamy alias Dayanand — who took part in the police station attack were killed in an encounter at Devarakonda area 10 days ago. Rathnaiah was Nalgonda district committee member. The police recovered a .9 mm pistol, which was allegedly snatched from the SI during the attack. Police investigations revealed that about 10 district dalam members were involved in the attack. They moved about in the surrounding areas before and after the attack, police said.
Meanwhile in Nizamabad, the Jakranpalli police unearthed a Maoist dump near Kaligote forest area and arrested three Maoists, including a TDP Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) member on Sunday. Eight landmines were found in the dump.
The arrested include Neeradi Subender (33), former sarpanch and present ZPTC of Ramadugu village, Sangem Ashok (20) village servant of Ramadugu and Gajella Gangadhar (27) of Kaligote.
