Orissa to raise special force comprising ex-army personnel
Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: In the wake of killing of Deputy Inspector General (South West range) Jaswinder Singh, Orissa government today decided to recruit 1,500 ex-army personnel to raise a special reserve police force to help tackle the Naxalite menace in the state.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
"It was considered to create a special security unit to meet the security requirement of the state," a release issued by the Chief Minister's office here said.
Reiterating his earlier demand for two additional battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Patnaik urged Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to include three more districts for special grants under security-related expenditure.
Meanwhile, the state government today appointed Susant Kumar Nath in place of Singh who was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Guma Ghat near Laxmipur in Maoist-infested Rayagada district, the release said.
Nath, Superintendent of Police, special operations group, was promoted to the rank of DIG and asked to join duty immediately, CMO sources said.
