Last rites for slain Naxals performed amid slogans

GUNTUR: The last rites of CPI-Maoist state committee member Yelagala Appa Rao alias Obulesu and his wife Kalpana alias Chandana were performed separately at Kesanupalli in Narasaraopet mandal and Pedavadlapudi village respectively this evening.
The body of Obulesu reached the Kesanupalli village in the wee hours of on Sunday. The body was draped in red flag and the funeral rites were conducted by his father Chodaiah amid slogans hailing the Maoist movement and denouncing the state. Over 200 villagers, who expected to see the face of slain Maoist were disappointed as the face was covered.
Villagers recollected that Obulesu, as an intermediate student, left the village 20 years back to join the Maoist movement. His bullet ridden body reached the village on Sunday. Prominent civil and Human Rights activists, Rythu Coolie Porata Samithi State unit president J Venkata Subba Rao, People Democratic Movement secretary Y Venkateswara Rao, Jana Natya Mandali president Y Krishna Rao. were among those present.
Meanwhile, the last rites of Kalpana were performed at her native village of Pedavadlapudi in Mangalagiri mandal. Her parents D Nageswara Rao, Mariyamma and about 100 villagers were present. Relatives alleged that Kalpana was killed by the police, after being arrested, in gross violation of Human Rights.
ONGOLE: In another development, Uppu Krishna, state convenor of the martyrs’ relatives and friends’ (Amaraveerula bandhu mithrula) committee, was arrested by the local police on Sunday.
According to police, Krishna had been facing complaints of forgery and cheating and a case was filed against him in 2004. However, as he was absconding, the third additional munsiff magistrate issued a warrant for his arrest. Basing on this, Chimakurthi SI Nimmagadda Satyanarayana took him into custody.
