Kolkata, Dec 4 (IANS) The agitation over the Tata car plant at Singur turned violent Monday when a Maoist organisation ransacked a car showroom of the company in the heart of Kolkata.
Suspected Maoists armed with rods, sticks and stones, in a sudden operation, damaged the showroom Lexus Motors on 209 AJC Bose Road in the heart of the city at around 10.15 a.m.
The Maoists also put up posters under the name of RSF (Revolutionary Socialist Front). They abused the state government for its Singur line.
Meanwhile, another attempt by community activist Medha Patkar to reach Singur was foiled by the police.
Opposition against the acquisition of farmlands for the Tata Motors small car project in West Bengal intensified with Mamata Banerjee and Patkar vowing to strengthen their protests even as a shutdown was called on Tuesday by a left opposition party.
While Banerjee warned of a "no-holds barred movement" against the government's acquisition of land for the Tata, India's largest private sector conglomerate, Patkar compared the state Communist government's action with US President George W. Bush's policy on Iraq.
