CPI deplores attack on party MP

Hyderabad, June 15: Andhra Pradesh State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded the arrest of police officials who had brazenly attempted an attack on party MP Aziz Pasha and human rights activist and lawyer Jaya Vindhyala when naxal leader Konapuri Ramulu came to surrender at the DGP office here.

CPI State secretary K. Narayana, in a statement here on Thursday said a police party in plain clothes tried to intercept the MP who was accompanying the naxalite leader planning to surrender before the police. Ramulu contacted CPI MP Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy expressing his intention to surrender and the latter contacted the police officials.

When the police top brass directed them to surrender the naxalite at the DGP’s office, Mr. Aziz Pasha had accompanied him along with Ms. Vindhyala.

Questioning the Government’s policy on naxalism, Mr. Narayana asked whether it wanted naxals to surrender at all.
